Painting is not a romantic process, it's emotional and physical work to produce tangible results that are envisioned by an individual person. I paint because I love the process of preparation, the materials and the result of conveying an idea on a two dimensional surface. Words like "inspiration" often make me think of someone standing on a mountain with the wind blowing through their hair in front of an easel with lightning striking all around them so I'd like not to use often overused words to describe what I do. It's not that way, it's very labor intensive and you have to embrace the fact that you are not in an environment that most people would choose. I would like to say I was "taught" by the example of doing things by hand. My mother and father were very old world, grew there own food, sewing their own clothes, building their own homes. Artists that I hold in my heart and mind are J.M.W. Turner, Claude Monet, Helen Frankenthaler and Robert Rauschenberg. Their color, use of materials in their time period were genius.
